Paints and Polishes

The sector of paints, varnishes, polishes, waxes, and cleaning products for floors, wood, and leather relies heavily on the use of wax in various formulations.

  • Cleaning products benefit from wax for its shine, glide, and smoothing properties.

  • In the automotive and aerospace industries, synthetic polyethylene waxes are widely used as polishing agents.

  • The tanning and leather treatment industry uses carnauba wax for its waterproofing properties, which is also a key component in many polishes.

  • The polish and wax industry makes extensive use of various waxes. Polishes can be applied to wood, nourishing it, but also to stone, plaster, tiles, and statues. Unlike other products, wax allows materials to breathe while protecting them. Floor and furniture polishes are made from turpentine (or other solvents) mixed with mineral, plant, or animal waxes chosen for their specific properties. In general, wax hardens in cold conditions and liquefies in heat.

  • Wax is also used in some paints and coatings, where it adds smoothness, shine, or a matte finish depending on the formulation. Wax can be saponified to blend with water in products like lime washes, stuccos, and acrylics.
